Just like Paris, she is an icon of chic. And just like Paris, simply saying her name conjures up that blend of charm and effortless elegance that Parisian women seem to receive from their fairy godmothers upon birth.

Truth is, elegance, like many a thing, is something you can learn. Author of several best-selling books in which she shares her styling tip and her favorite spots in Paris, celebrity model Inès de la Fressange has also opened her own concept store.   A few paces from the Lutetia, it is the perfect place on the Rive Gauche to spy on the well-kept secrets of the timeless allure and nonchalant chic Parisian women like to maintain, be it in their clothes or in their home.

Here’s three style tips we have gleaned for you:

  1. A blazer is your go-to for practically any situation. A business meeting? You will look your best with cream-colored flare trousers and a marine blazer. Pair it with jeans, a pair of pumps and a white silk shirt for a casual luncheon with your friends. For the evening, a velvet blazer with matching trousers will make you stand out from the crowd of long and short dresses.
  2. Parisian women love to entertain at home. Besides flowers and carefully picked tableware, they like to add a finishing touch with a scented candle that reflects their taste and personality. This signature fragrance will linger in the minds as much as the lively conversation.
  3. Don’t go “too much”. The key word in effortless is “less”: one of the basic rules is Parisian style is never to go for the full combo, and keep it simple. If you down a lamé dress, wear it with simple leather flats (even better if they are handmade from Cordonnerie Attal). If you go for a smoky eye, keep the mouth nude. If you wear power heels, put some jeans above.

And if you’re wanting for more, we highly recommend perusing through Inès’ books, such as the best-selling Parisian chic: a style guide by Ines de la Fressange.
